Access to Newark Southern Link Road from Bowbridge Lane in Middlebeck closed for three weeks of roadworks, days after opening to traffic
Just days after opening to traffic, access to a new stretch of the Southern Link Road has been closed off.
A stretch of the Southern Link Road, which links Bowbridge Lane at Middlebeck with the A1 at Fernwood, via the old Staple Lane, opened to traffic last Friday after months of roadworks, marking a major milestone in the project.
However, access has now been restricted again, at the Bowbridge Lane end, as a three week road closure is put in place.
The road closure affects the road directly outside of the Gannets Cafe in Middlebeck, with vehicles prohibited from passing along a 125 metre long section of Bowbridge Lane from its junction with Marleston Lane.
Via East Midlands roadworks documents state that the closure is required “to enable ECL Civil Engineering to carry out a full reconstruction of existing road and footway/cycleway.”
The road closure is scheduled to be complete by 5pm on Sunday, November 10. However, signage on site suggests the restriction could last up to three weeks.
In the meantime a diversion has been put in place via Bowbridge Lane, Hawton Lane, London Road, B6326, Southern Link Road and vice versa.
